This quick recipe
was handed down from my mother. Growing up I remember having it
often. Since I’ve been married we’ve made it often. It’s an
economical dish that adds zest to most meats and goes very well with
ham.
Ingredients:
3-5 slices white bread
1 cup strong grated cheese
3 eggs, 1 pint milk, butter, salt, pepper
Instructions:
Butter 3-5 slices of white bread, cut into strips and place
crisscross in buttered casserole dish. Pour over 1 cup of very
strong grated cheese, add milk, salt and pepper. Bake about 30
minutes at 375 degrees. Either serve immediately or chill overnight.
If chilled, bake a bit more prior to serving to prevent falling. |
