Question: New Year’s
Resolutions
"If you had the ability to do something positive that
would change the world, what would it be and how would you do it?"
Featuring KES children from the sixth grade classes of Ms.
Dodge and Mrs. Emmett.
ERIKA GRIMES --
I can set a positive example for my peers and the kids younger than me.
This would change the world because the people that follow my example will
become nice and the next generation of people might be more peaceful. And
if people were more peaceful there wouldn’t be any more wars. It only
takes one person or a few to change the world.
EDDIE MARTIN -- I would start a certain kind of
fund that would run all over the world. I would set up stands so that
people would give money, canned foods, and clothes. I would send out
flyers in newspapers so people would know. Also some of the items would go
to people effected by the recent tragedies around the world .
CHRIS BALLERINI-- If I had the power to do
something positive to change the world I would stop global warming. The
elimination of the greenhouse effect would preserve our atmosphere. In
order to stop this I would protest around the world for people to stop
polluting the air with toxic gases. With the help of scientists, I would
build a new atmosphere outside the original one.
NICOLE KATSIKAS-- I would end littering by
picking up every piece of litter in the world. When we litter, we are
destroying the homes and habitats of animals and plants. When people
litter with trash bags they can land on plants and have them die and not
be able to get water. When I see people litter I would go up to them and
tell them to throw it where it belongs -- in a trash can, not on the
streets.
LEXI RUPRECHT -- I would
put up signs saying not to litter or cut down trees to save our
environment. This would also help animals from becoming extinct. There
also needs to be strict laws to make sure no one litters or cuts down
trees. This is important because without trees we wouldn’t be alive.
RYAN DWYER -- If I had the ability to do something
positive to change the world I would make a cure so paralyzed people could
walk again. It would change millions of peoples’ lives. They could play
sports and do a lot more.
JESSICA PEACOCK-- If I had the ability to do
something positive that would change the world I would make peace. I would
make sure all homeless families had food and shelter. I would try to
convince people to get along with others. I would help anyone who was very
ill. There would be peace and harmony.
BRIAN CHAVES -- My resolution is to plant a tree.
This could make a difference because if one person saw me then they would
plant one and so on and we will end up with a lot more trees. This is how
I could make a difference in the world because there will be a lot more
trees.
RACHEL COX -- Out of my resolutions I would try to
find a cure for cancer. I think this because my grandmother died of this
when I was 5-years-old and recently my uncle died of cancer. I would
gather up all the excellent doctors and scientists and we would research a
human body until we found out what was causing this problem. I wouldn’t
just do this for my family and me but also for families and people
everywhere.
RYAN LYNCH -- My resolution would be to pick up
trash around my neighborhood. I would do this by first, getting a trash
bag and a pointy stick. Second, I would put on gloves. Third, I would walk
around my neighborhood picking up the trash. Eventually other people would
start to do the same and the earth would be less littered and a lot
cleaner.
EMILY PATCHETT -- If I could change the world I
would be kinder to others. I would do this because if you are kind to
someone they are kind to another, and so on. For example, I could hold the
door for an elderly man. Or, I could give a nice, bright smile to someone
that looks sad, or depressed.
COURTNEY KELLEY -- I would work toward ending the
pollution of the earth. I would do that by having my mom drive me to my
friends. If it was close I could walk or ride my bike. I will try really
hard to do this. If it’s far, I will only go once a week or once every
other week.
CHRIS MATINZI -- What I would do to change the
world would be to end world hunger. What I would do to accomplish this
would be to make people eat only what they could so no food would go to
waste. That is what I would do to change the world.
ANDREA CLAUSON -- I will help three people. And
those three people will help nine people. That will make the world easier.
Then eveyone will be happy. I will help my mom, my grampy, and teacher or
a student that gets made fun of. That is my resolution
TALIA DeCHIARA -- I will try to give peace and
happiness to all. I play many sports and I get to meet a lot of kids.
After games I will always say ‘good game’ or ‘nice job’. After a
hockey game when we shake hands, it doesn’t matter whether you win or
loose.
ASHLEIGH SULLIVAN -- I think that I will help
other people instead of thinking about what I want. I could help people by
giving food to three others who need it. Also by giving kids toys and
other useful things.
SHAWN McDONOUGH -- I would like to make
smoking illegal. It burns your lungs. It also kills many Americans.
Smoking shortens your life by many years, and is just plain useless.
AUSTENNE KIGHT-- My resolution would be to find a
cure for asthma. I would get the best asthma doctors and scientist and the
materials needed. From there it would be trial and error. When they found
the cure it would be adjusted so know one was allergic to the ingredients.
Finally it would be shipped to every hospital and pharmacy in the world.
CRAIG McKINNON -- I would make peace in the
world. I would help the families who lost someone in the Sept. 11 attack.
Many people lost their loved ones. Peace would make the world better
because I would not like another tragedy like we had. Also I would not
like to see more people die. Some people say the terrorist attack killed
more people than Pearl Harbor.
CHASE ARRIGHI -- Something that could change the
world is a robot that cleans and makes meals for you. It would sweep,
dust, and vacuum your house. This robot would make your meals when you say
what you want. the robot would be called HouseMaid. The price would be
$400. I think this invention can change the world.
STEVEN BERNA -- I would invent a gum of varied
flavors that can cure common diseases. I would first find a cure or use a
cure already made to insert in the gum. Wintergreen would cure cancer,
peppermint, the common cold, cinnamon would cure Aids, and spearmint for
diabetes. The gum would be free to all.
KELLIE MacFARLANE -- I would make a machine
that sorts out trash so people could dump their trash into the machine and
it would sort cans in one part, aluminum in another, and plastic in yet
another part.
REBECCA TELFORD-- I would help people in need.
For instance, collect money or donations of other things for the less
fortunate. Since it is the holiday season many people who don’t have
that much didn’t get a present. People could also donate clothes new or
old. Clothes that don’t fit you anymore would be good too. With donated
money we could buy new things. This is especially good because of Sept.
11. All the donations will be given to a local charity.
LUKE FORTINI -- I’m going to invent something.
I plan to make a floating car. I would have magnets as streets. Then I
would put a repelling magnet on the bottom of the car. I would weld two
slow jets to the back of the car. The steering will be attached to the
jets so it can turn. Every car will have its own rail of magnets. It will
go fairly fast and will be the safest thing in the air. In case anything
can happen I’m going to put bumpers on the outside of the car and have
padded walls around the magnets.
JODIE INGENITO -- I would save woodland animals
and their habitats. No one is noticing that species of animals are dying
out, becoming rare, or even becoming extinct and that forests are being
cut down. This is not only bad for animals, it’s also bad for us.There
are only limited resources, if we clear out all the trees, the animals
will invade already owned property. Among other things I would do a TV
community service message to spread the world.
ALYSSA CHENARD -- If I could change anything in
the world I would stop the Taliban. They put together the September 11
tragedy and could do what they did to anyone else. They are also abusing
their own people. Many have tried to overthrow the Taliban but it usually
didn’t work. If I had my say, the Taliban would be kicked out totally.
