Committee Plans Could Change the Skyline Jan 29, 2008Windmills May Take the Town by Storm
Can I afford it, what kind of dollar return will I get, is this the right economic time, will we need an override, should we begin with one and then test the waters? These will be the questions the town is faced with when it comes to our own decisions regarding windmills.
Strange But True - July '07 Jul 23, 2007Question: What has been the biggest flying creature ever? Alongside this one, an eagle seems but a sparrow. S. S. Transport
Strange But True: June '07 Jun 25, 2007 Question: How did Earth's flowering plants eventually blossom into us? The original "flower power."
Answer: Nice-looking and -smelling flowers lured insects into pollination, fostering a wide array of vegetation that benefited primates, says botanist William C. Burger in "University of Chicago Magazine."
Strange but True - May '07 May 21, 2007 Empathy and social reciprocity are at the root of the golden rule of "Do unto others" in religions and cultures worldwide. Guess where else these "pillars of human morality" show up.
To Be Or Not To Be; The Slipshod Sliplane To Route 3 May 21, 2007 So much has been said about construction of an access road connecting to Route 3 South. Developer Lloyd Geisinger had coined the expression, "No sliplane, no project." Now that some of the frenzy surrounding the activities leading up to and including Town Meeting have reduced to a rolling boil, let’s try and answer the question.
Ringside - May 2007 May 21, 2007SHAME ON JEAN: For someone holding a Federal position as head of the Social Security Office in Hanover, Jean Landis-Naumann certainly showed none of the sense that would be expected of an individual holding such a position. It’s troubling, deeply troubling and involves matters that we suspect are far from over. We are, indeed, speaking of Jean’s role in the 40-R matter and the Geisinger Contract with the 11 member Indian Pond Neighborhood Association Board of Directors.
You've Got Mail... Apr 23, 2007 I want to thank Ed King for the mailers he sent to most households in town. These mailers detailed our tax problems and other financial details which were calculated to humiliate and embarrass us, and to cost Dan his seat on the Board of Health in the upcoming elections.
Ringside Observer - March '07 Mar 16, 2007 RECORDS PLEASE!? As important as the work of the so-called Design Review Committee is supposed to be, one would think that they kept minutes of their meetings. This cluster of folks put together, with a lot of help, the design standards of what would get built if 40-R passes at Town Meeting. A look see in the Clerk’s Office shown that there were two sets of minutes, one for July and one for August of 2006. That is a record to be ashamed of.
Strange but True - October '06 Oct 27, 2006Question: Why might it be said of even violent volcanic eruptions like Mount St. Helens (1980) or Mount Pinatubo (1991) that "It's an ill wind that blows no one any good?"
Strange but True - September '06 Sep 22, 2006 Questionn: It's hardly a hot stunt nowadays, but if you were newsreel cameraman Al Mingalone in 1937 intent on leaping over a house (yeah, a house--called "house-hopping"), what did you strap on for assistance?
Ringside - August '06 Aug 18, 2006FECAL ATTRACTION: We all know how dogs are attracted to the lush grass around the KES & KIS fields, well, that’s a thing of the past. The Elementary School Committee voted 4-0 to ban dogs from the fields, consistent with an action already taken by Selectmen. The Committee said the safety and welfare of the children comes above all other considerations. Now if we can just get those out-of-towners to keep their dogs at home. As an interesting note, there are 40 fewer students K-6 this coming year then last year.
Ringside - July 2006 Jul 21, 2006DEAR JOHN: Town Treasurer John LaBrache is working on a report that would forecast the impact of the Geisinger 40-R on a department by department basis. Although weeks away, John told the Ringsiders that the impacts would be "substantial" across the board. That would include police, fire, schools, teachers, landfill, etc. John predicts that the effect would be major, with the $2.8 million in State incentives being blown out within the first year.
Ringside - June 2006-html Jun 23, 2006 GLASS ACTION: We have received information that more then suggests that L. Knife & Son is conducting glass crushing recycling off Hedge Road in Plymouth. You know, the same operation they want here in Kingston. Problem is, they are not zoned for such activity in Plymouth. The Building Department said they would check it out…wanna bet!
Randall Prevails on Recount May 14, 2008 After a 30 minute instructional period and less then two hours of counting, Selectman Dennis Randall can finally feel better about continuing in the position. The re-count showed no change in his three vote victory over ZBA Chairman John Haas, 386-383. Not a single ballot was ever challenged during the process. Randall was gracious in after the process as was Haas.
It is with a heavy heart that The Observer announces the death of Mauro Mazzilli, 65, of 13 Cedar Lane in Rocky Nook. EMT's were called to his home earlier this morning and he was pronounced dead at the Jordan Hospital. Mauro was a colorful man who loved the political process and being a part of it. He most recently ran for Selectman. Mauro had many friends and had a kind heart. We will miss him terribly and find it difficult to believe he is gone. Our heart goes out to his wife Dotty, his children and his beloved grandchildren.
We will pass on more specific information after we speak with Dotty.
The re-count for the three year Selectman's seat will take place Wednesday, May 14 in room 220, second floor, Kingston Town Hall. Dennis Randall won the seat by three votes over John Haas. The issue will be put to rest around 4-5 hours later.
MARTIN RESIGNS
Assessor William Martin has resigned his seat but will continue on as Veteran's Agent. Details to follow.
GRINHAM REINSTATED
Tax Collector employee Eileen Grinham has been reinstated to her job following a Union challenge and a closed door Selectmen's Hearing after being fired by Collector Priscilla Palombo. No other particulars are available but the woman is back at her desk
Kingston Reporter Wishes to Correct Error May 1, 2008 I just got off the phone with Kingston Reporter Editor Scott Smith who wanted me to know, and to pass on to our web readers, the fact that a portion of a recent post election story was incorrect.
