Shangri-La Restaurant, Tastes of India & Nepal

We have always enjoyed Indian Cuisine and was delighted to see Shangri-La Restaurant open right in the downtown of Plymouth. The fare is primarily Indian with a pleasant mix of Nepalese dishes. The owners, both of whom hail from Nepal, are Ganesh Nelson and Pradip Budhathoki say Plymouth was a perfect location to introduce authentic ethnic foods of their part of the world. There is one such restaurant on the Cape and a good number in and around Boston. The partners have over 30 years of experience between them.

The breads and many of the food items are prepared in a Tandoor which is a clay lined pot fired by wood ash. The resulting flavor is exciting. The best deal in the house is the buffet all-you-can-eat lunch. Featured foods on our visit included rice, lamb, chicken chili, Rajma, Mattar Paneer (peas and homemade cottage cheese), Chicken Tikka Masala, chicken tenderloin, Papadum Vegetable Pakora (our favorite, an all vegetable fried treat with a moist center) and a fresh salad with wonderful dressings (we tried all three).

We are always on the search for a new and different menu fare, Shangri-La provided that with a price that won’t leave you wincing.

[Apr. 17, 2008] No mention of athletic fields in engineering contract
Tell ‘em you’re building ball fields and then give ’em a road instead. The details of the ‘Baseball Landfill Reuse Contract’ have no mention of ball fields, sports, or recreational use. Such amenities are missing from the Weston & Sampson proposal. What is mentioned, in considerable detail is the intent to build a grand entrance to Thorndike’s dream village.

Will Thorndike’s 40-R be Wrecked by the Recession?
[Apr. 17, 2008] You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see and feel what’s going on with the economy. What with gasoline averaging about $3.20 a gallon and home heating oil pushing the $4.00 a gallon level, the average Joe is being pushed to the limit. Foreclosures are rampant and you now see signs promoting “selling short”, meaning if you sell your home for less then the outstanding mortgage balance, the bank could forgive you of the difference… everybody is just looking to cut their losses. Food prices are climbing as is the cost of commercial travel. We can’t even get away on the cheap in order to lick our wounds.
