Down Town Kingston: Summer Street Views
Special thanks go to Dave Pepe of Kingston who allowed images from his personal collection to be scanned for all to see. Dave has been collecting post card images of Kingston for more than eight years. A thumbnail collection is displayed below -- click on the image for a larger view.

At first glance the two photos of Summer Street appear to be identical except for season. A closer look reveals a telling difference -- the photo on the left shows a pole carrying a brace of telephone lines (40 lines to be exact -- count the insulators on each cross piece). But which photo is older? My guess is that the color photo pre-dates the 1896 photo by at least six years. Estimated year of hand colored photo: 1890.

Believe it or not!
Once upon a time Kingston had its own trolley cars. Junction of Summer and Green Street (across from today's Reed Community Center and the town library. Note the trolley tracks and trolley car sharing the scene with a vintage Ford motor car.
