The
Ship & the Seal
The ship on Kingston's town seal is the town-built brig "Independence." Ever wonder what the actual ship might have looked like when she was under sail? "Fair Jeanne" is the French brig pictured above. We think it likely she appeared much the same. The Independence did not leave many traces behind of what she accomplished during the war. She set sail in July of 1776 and was captured by the British four months later. Read more of Kingston's ship building history here.
