Kingston’s
Top Ten
Movers and Shakers
NOTE: This list appears in
alpha order. Kingston’s Top Ten list of
movers and shakers was compiled by the Observer network based upon
effectiveness, position, community influence, commitment, and a two year
history of public service. Only local municipal officials were considered.
It is a given that our elected state reps would make any list. Feel free
to take issue with our choices in any of our forums: letters, Squawk Box,
our online Community Discussion Groups.

FRANK
BASLER: Frank is a man of many talents. During the past
several years we have seen the best of Basler. His involvement on
the Master Plan Committee was tireless as we finally saw the first
update to the old plan in decades. His service on the Finance
Committee has been first class and his efforts on the Tri-Town
School Committee as Kingston’s financial point man made a real
difference during the long years of negotiating Pembroke’s
withdrawal. Now that Pembroke is gone we need his services even
more to get us through the growing pains. |

BRIAN
CASEAU: Serving as Chairman of the Silver Lake Regional
School Committee would have been a tough road for whoever held the
position. Consider the fact that the term covered the period
leading up to Pembroke’s withdrawal, and the aftermath of that
action with the formation of the new Tri-Town makeup. Caseau was
the right guy at the right time, fearless, unflinching and direct.
Replacing a new administrative staff, dealing with teacher
contracts and the ebbs and flows of change are enough to warrant
the inclusion of Caseau to our Top 10 List. |

PINE
DUBOIS: Most towns possess an individual who is
acknowledged as its environmental conscience, enter Pine DuBois.
Pine is not a recent voice for the planet, she has been at it long
before it was deemed politically in vogue. She is the real thing.
She knows when something is wrong and can explain why it is so.
She is a powerful speaker and wins more issues than she loses. She
has tempered her earlier militant demeanor resulting in greater
effectiveness. Behind her tough exterior lurks a warm individual
difficult to dislike. Add up our open space and you’ll find
Pine. |

ROSCOE
COLE: Every town needs a Rocky Cole; the elder
statesman. He started his career of service with the Zoning Board
in the early 60’s then joined the FinCom before being elected
Selectman in the late 60’s. From there it was back to the FinCom
and was elected Town Treasurer in 1988, a position he has held
ever since. No budgetary or borrowing issue is ever formalized
until first having heard from Rocky Cole. He has always been a
wonderful spokesman never resorting to histrionics or blarney.
Cole is one of a dwindling breed, a consummate professional.

MARGORIE
CADENHEAD: Marjorie is one of Kingston’s longest
running acts. Her service has been within and without the
political sphere. A former Regional School Committee member, a two
term Selectman and a current member of the Finance Committee, she
made her biggest impact as chairman of the Kingston 275th
Celebration Committee with a tireless effort over a four year
period. Marjorie is outspoken and not afraid to take a contrary
view. She is persistent, sometimes contrary and like the bunny,
keeps going and going. One can never doubt her passion for the
community. |
