Him and Her April 2009 Him: She has been under the weather for the past week or so. Probably a slight bout of the flue bug with a touch of diverticulitis. When she has these ailments she whines with all kinds of requests: “Make me a nice cup of coffee”, “Can you make me a nice hot cup of tea…I know I had coffee, but ...
Him and Her for February 2009 HIM: She thinks I am too macabre. She says it’s a sign of old age, and I don’t dispute her. She says it is all so depressing and that I am obsessed. She is referring to the fact that I have begun reading the obituary pages in the Ledger, Enterprise and Reporter on a much more regular basis. “Why can’t you pick a paper and read ‘em to your heart’s content?” It’s because I don’t want to miss a single one. The Ledger doesn’t carry all the Brockton deaths nor does the Enterprise cover many of the Quincy notices. The Reporter gives us the Tri-Town area and Pembroke. I don’t want to miss a one of them.
Him & Her: TKO at a Time of Transition... HIM: With the economy being what it is, the tightening of the purse strings has her engaged in a sneaky little game of financial cat and mouse. For years now she has raided my pants pockets of any loose change that I have accumulated throughout the day. Sometimes it’s nice to have that change…like when you buy a $1.68 coffee at Dunkin’ and you have the actual 68 cents in change. I always feel good when that happens, like I saved a dollar bill along the way....
Blueberry Harvest She and I are both from New Jersey, she from a little town named South River and me from the city of New Brunswick…home of Rutgers University and Johnson & Johnson products. One thing we both did as kids was to go blueberry picking. Some of our fondest moments when we were kids was snagging a bowl and heading out to the bushes that were abundant back then. As we got older it seemed a whole lot easier to watch for the specials on blueberries when they were in season, or pay the outrageous prices when they weren’t.
When Birds of a Feather Flock Together.. HIM: She may be a religious person, but she can’t hold a candle to St. Francis. We have any number of animals at our house, some of which are owned by our oldest son David. While he was out-of-town he entrusted her with the care of two finches named Bernie and Phil, a happy rabbit named Luna, various aquarium fish where if they have names, we’re not interested enough to learn them, a 14 year old cat named Phoebe, and an African Grey parrot named Howard (after Stern). Well, needless to say, not all went well.
Where the heart leads, love will follow... HIM: When it comes to an emergency she becomes Jello. This, in contrast to the cool, calm and collected manner in which I face bad news. Let’s take health. She hates doctors and avoids them at all costs. For my own part, I’m on the phone at the first real sign of trouble. Our most recent situation with this heart attack business drained the color right out of her.
HIM: She made a list of New Year’s promises but nothing that would knock me off a chair. Since the list was bereft of anything that I could cheer about, allow me to draw up “Resolutions I would like to have heard her make.”
Resolution #1:She will quit smoking. Not only is it a dangerous, unhealthy habit…it is expensive. The cheapest ...
