The Selectmen

The board tabled the proposed opening of William C. Gould Way to accommodate the development of bordering land in Plymouth where two car dealerships and a hotel have been planned. After questioning by Selectman Jean Landis Naumann, it was determined that Plymouth will not approve ...

Thorndike Turns to State for Financial Assistance

(September 4, 2008) Call it smart business or a cry for needed revenue, either way 40-R developer Lloyd Geisinger is not bashful in his latest political move to pull the State into the position of cash cow. The move was paved with a Thorndike Development 1021 Kingston’s Place Update fluff piece e-mailed to various town departments providing updates to events that possessed more glitz and flag waving then substance. We suspect that the reason for the mailer was for a purpose further then paying for an ad in a program book for the Jones River Watershed’s recent Arts Festival or a contribution to a golf outing for St. Joseph Church… both nice causes but purely PR moves.

O’Brien’s Tarnished Charm

(September 4, 2008) There is little doubt that former State Representative Tom O'Brien of Kingston will carry his home town on Primary Day, September 16 when he vies to maintain his seat as Plymouth County Treasurer. But, has some of the luster gone out on the O’Brien mystique. The Observer wishes to point out two issues which should give pause to O’Brien’s actions.

Promises & Commitments Remain Murky as 40R Gears Up for the Big Show

Remember all the flyers and campaign rhetoric?

The last time 40-R developer Lloyd Geisinger met with the Selectmen he came with retribution as a major theme. He was clearly angry that several citizens had filed lawsuits against the 40-R with effects on the Town, Geisinger and the State. His message was delivered loud and clear, that he would begin construction by January of 2010…despite those lawsuits. Several times he spoke of the suits in terms of being “frivolous” but a thing that had to be dealt with. He saw more exposure for those filed against the Town.

The Inspiring Tale of the Loan Arranger

We include the South Shore Savings Bank of Weymouth and Thorndike Development press release exactly as it was prepared. Mind you, we never received a copy but one was e-mailed to us from someone who had. The announcement was made by “blind” e-mail which means that the receiver list was hidden.

When the Deadline Becomes Unimportant

The Observer is a bit overdue. While we hope that it was missed by most, we realize that there is a little band of scallywags that “Wish us everything but the best.” As the Chief Cook & Bottle Washer of this little enterprise, such things as deadlines fall squarely on my shoulders. With that reality in mind, I must confess that, “Frankly, I don’t give a damn.”

A Final Farewell To My Friend Mauro Mazzilli

Mauro Mazzilli was a little guy with a big heart. That heart gave out on the morning of May 13 in a manner Mauro hoped for and discussed on numerous occasions; quickly. Mauro was fiercely proud and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved his wife Dotty, his sons and grandchildren. Because he shared his home with sons Tony and Michael, he was especially doting when it came to them. At no point in all the decades I have known Mauro did he ever say a cross word about his family and always treated women with respect.
