At approximately, 10:25 AM, the Kingston Fire Department received a call for smoke in the building with an odor of something burning in the FYE occupancy. Upon arrival of the first fire department units, there was a heavy smoke condition in the FYE store, adjacent stores, the food court and main corridor. A 2nd alarm was struck bringing in mutual aid and resources. In addition, to the Kingston apparatus, Plymouth, Duxbury and Pembroke responded to the scene. The situation is stabilized at this time and the cause is under investigation by the Kingston Fire Department and the Independence Mall management. The Mall was initially evacuated, but they are beginning to let people back in at this time. There are no injuries.
