Zoning enforcement officer and building inspector Paul Armstrong issued a letter to the O'Donnell Realty Trust on Dec. 16 asking that the unofficial parking lot now operated by Shawn and Rebecca O'Donnell at 47 Marion Drive be made to conform to zoning by-laws. (see letter below)
The O'Donnells are providing parking to commuters at a weekly savings of $30. The MBTA recently doubled its fees for parking at the train station.
Armstrong's timely action forestalls potential contamination of the soil from petroleum products and precludes Thorndike Realty from any possible future claims that its 40R land was allowed to be contaminated by the town's failure to enforce zoning by-laws calling for the paving of parking lots.

I understand there are zoning requirements and that the O'Donnells should not be exempt. I park my car there every day now and take the train to Boston. They are doing a wonderful job. This morning their lot was well plowed. ON THE OTHER HAND -- Marion Drive was in DEPLORABLE AND HORRENDOUS condition. The entire road was a thick, icy rutted -- and dangerous -- mess. Hundreds of commuters need to travel back & forth on Marion Drive -- why isn't the Town of Kingston plowing this much-traveled road which offers the ONLY access to the MBTA train station???
The town also has an obligation to these comutors for their safety. The foot traffic going to the SRO lot is uncontrolled and folks cross in many different areas running in and out of traffic and further slowing the already overcrowed stream of impatient comutors. It is only a matter of time before someone is struck and injured. Who will be responsible then, certainly SRO won't step up to that.
