Locals Mariann O’Neil and Debbie Grace will host a free quilt workshop at the Beal House on Jan. 10 all day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The quilts are being created for South of Boston Quilts for Kids which is part of a national organization providing handmade quilts for those in need. The quilts made locally are given to Renewal House in Boston, a shelter for abused women and their children, the Ronald Mc Donald House, and other worthy groups. Most materials are provided, even cloth that has been donated. Participants must bring their own sewing machines, thread, rotary cutter or scissors, and a lunch. Everyone ages 12-adult is welcome.
To register, please call 781-585-3051 or e-mail the instructor at southofBostonquiltsforkids@verizon.net by January 2nd to ensure that adequate materials will be available. Those who are interested in continuing in the program Quilting for Kids may register with the Recreation Commission for its scheduled sessions which begin on Thursday, Jan. 15 for ten consecutive weeks at the Reed Community Building from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at no cost.
