Mark Your Calendars for the Annual Lasagna Dinner and Auction

The Annual Lasagna Dinner and Auction will be on Saturday, March 14th, 6:30pm at the First Parish Church, in the Beal House, 222 Main Street, Kingston. There will be some wonderful lasagna to enjoy, including salad, bread and ice cream and beverage. Then a robust and fun auction with everything from homemade baked goodies and services donated by church members to great new and old items members have pulled out of their attics and garages. Rockland Athletics Supply and Royal Garden Restaurant to repeat as sponsors for KYSO Golf & Dinner Benefit

For the fifth consecutive year, Rockland Athletics Supply and Royal Garden Restaurant will be the "Event Sponsors" for the Kingston Youth Sports Organization’s (KYSO) Fifth Annual "Fore the Kids" Golf & Dinner Benefit. The benefit will be held to raise money for lights, turf improvements and other amenities for the Opachinski Athletic Complex on Pottle Street in Kingston. The festivities will take place on Monday, May 4, at the Indian Pond Country Club Registrations for golf foursomes and dinner tickets are now being accepted. Reservations/payments for attending the event can be made in the following ways: (1) online with PayPal; (2) directly contacting any of our Committee members; or, (3) mailing in a form and payment to KYSO, P. O. Box 241, Kingston, MA 02364. Forms for golf and/or dinner can be found online or in our tournament brochures which are available at a number of businesses around town. Due to the popularity of the event, we will be required to uphold a first come/first serve policy. Please contact us by phone or email if you mail your payment.

The Kingston Youth Sports Organization works with the town’s youth sports groups and the Town of Kingston Recreation Department to enhance the quality of youth sports facilities and programs in Kingston. The youth sport groups that make up KYSO include Kingston Youth Soccer Association, Silver Lake Youth Football & Cheerleading, Kingston Youth Baseball and Softball League, and Kingston Youth Lacrosse.

SCHOLARSHIP NOTICE

The Kingston Town Employees Union (KTEU) is pleased to announce that two $500 scholarships are being offered for two qualified applicants.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

1.    The son or daughter of a current KTEU member

2.    The son or daughter of a retired KTEU member

3.    The grandson or granddaughter of a current or retired KTEU member

4.    The son or daughter of a current Wage and Personnel employee of the Town of Kingston

5.    If no applicant meets one of the above criteria, any student

6.    Applicant must be planning to attend an accreited 2/4 year college or post high school technical program during the coming academic year.

Applications will be available at the Guidance Offices of Silver Lake Regional High School, and Sacred Heart High School, as well as the Kingston Public Library.  Required information includes a completed application, a copy of the applicant’s high school transcript, and a letter of recommendation.  All information will be kept strictly confidential Scholarship awards will be paid after the completion of one (1) successful semester. Applications must be completed and returned to Kingston Town Employees Union, Scholarship Committee, c/o Kingston Public Library, 6 Green Street, Kingston, MA 02364, postmarked no later than April 10, 2009.

Recipes needed . The Friends of the Kingston Public Library are putting together a cookbook titled "Recipes from a Seaside Village" and your exceptional recipes are needed for every category. Please send your recipes to Nancy Sapir at 241 Main St. or e-mail them to NTSapir@aol.com. Several great authors have already agreed to submit recipes in order to help the Friends help the library. So far, they are Katherine Hall Page, author of the Faith Fairchild series whose new book, The Body in the Sleigh will be out next fall, Joanne Fluke, author of the Hannah Swensen series, Laura Levine, author of the Jaine Austen series, and medical thriller writer, Dr. Michael Palmer. The Friends are working to have this cookbook ready for gift giving by the Christmas season, but they need your help.

Kindergarten Registration. Registration for children who will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2009 has begun and continues through March 13. Eligible children must be five years or older on or before Sept. 1. To register your child, go to the Kingston Elementary School at 150 main St. anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. You will need a copy of your child’s birth certificate, proof of residence (a tax or phone bill), immunization records and a current physical examination. New first-graders who have not attended KES previously will be registered also. First-graders must be six years old on or before Sept. 1. After registration you will receive notice of a screening appointment to determine classroom placement. An orientation will be held on Wed., May 27, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the KES cafeteria.

For seniors. The Friends of the Kingston Council on Aging have chartered a two-hour cruise for Wed., May 20, aboard The Spirit of Boston. The cruise includes a narration on Boston Harbor, a buffet, a DJ, and a live musical revue. There will be time provided to browse at Quincy Market after the cruise. The cost is $62 per person. Payment by check is due upon registration. Checks should be made payable to: Friends of the Kingston COA. The trip will depart from the Hannaford parking lot at 10:15 a.m. and return at 5:15 p.m.
